Cyborg: short for “cybernetic organism”, is a being with both organic and biomechatronic body parts. Automatic control systems (such as the nervous system and brain and mechanical-electrical communication systems)
It applies to an organism that has restored function or enhanced abilities due to the integration of some artificial component or technology. / While cyborgs are commonly thought of as mammals, they might also conceivably be any kind of organism.
oming dawn of the Day of the Lizard of the Grainseed Month, Year 1983
Last words of Mother Mencía, the Emeritus Abess of the Sacred Mercy
This battered letter came into my old hooves. Now that I´m reading it, I reckon that the horrors that came to this land and that there was no way this old doe could have prevented them…
The Day of the Dragon of the Vigil´s Month, Year 1980
Urgent Missive to King Henrik
Castle Swanstone
City of Navelport, Akasha
Our esteemed and benevolent King.
It has come to my humble paws a Soldier binnacle, from the farthest mining village beyond the Great Moosephant Mountain Range, and I have carefully examined it at your request:
Private Harish´s diaries talk about a strange laboratory, where people, who supposedly called themselves scientists – a mix of alchemists and physicians for what I can understand – made gruesome experiments with living creatures of this world.
It is unknown to me what foul magics could they have used to achieve that which Private Harish tells, but their knowledge exceeds all that I could have ever dreamed to do.
First of all, my ample studies of biology have taught me to roughly replicate mechanical devices which move and look like insects. And a couple of articulated toys that imitate the movement of the pets and lesser critters.
Just once, I created, or better said, made an improved version of a peg leg for the so called Cookie, the seafaring lady, in order to help her to move by herself without the aid of crotches, quite useful at land, but which would put an end to her maritime dreams of navigating the world in her father´s ship.
But even metal peg legs have a disadvantage: they need the help of straps and gears to attach them to the body in order to move them as if they were natural limbs.
It is my belief, that all that Private Harish saw, was just a bigger scale of the experiments that I have done. Artificial critters that try and fail to work as sentient beings, or alchemists with prosthetic limbs.
Besides, the last scouts that have approached those territories, have spotted a pack of Monkeyotes, if those wild predators roam the place, it is more likely to link the dissapearence of the villagers to the wild critters than to farfetched creations. Therefore, there´s no danger of ever seeing those aberrations to the Goddess´ on these lands. At least in a good couple of centuries.
Your humble servant:
Giacomo Giovanni Mongiorno,
Royal Court Inventor
The King´s counselor brought me the letter with the utmost secrecy. The Matriarchy and the Patriarchy were summoned, but neither of them saw the danger at that time, and I was lured by the assuring words that whispered in my old ears.
There was but one who saw the warning signs for what they were, and I ruthlessly dismissed her from my side. Now she´s gone and I brought doom to my side just with that event. The Goddesses shall be laughing from the irony.
Three years later, some of the orphan werepuppies who came from the far mountain mining towns made some disturbing drawings, although the nuns who took care of them of course took them as figment of their imagination. Children are well known for telling tales…
The ominous date that´s written on that piece of parchment fatefully sealed the end of the civilization as we know it…
I am old and dying, and my succesor won´t stop this madness…
Mother Mencía

I LOVE the way this story is developing – you’re creating such a vivid world. Are you still on the world building phase of your research, or have you started the story?

Thank you! It’s a bit of both, actually. Years ago I got the idea, and developed a main story. But as I started writing about the characters, and the background story, I realized there are many things I need to research still, to create a good scenario.

Your creative works of art definitely lie in your words but your child-like illustrations are cleverly crafted. I applaud your commitment and consistency to charm me with your short stories. 👏
Please swing by when time allows to check out my next A2Z art sketch in my Little Mermaid character series with Carlotta! Happy A2Zing, dearie!!

Thanks! Actually it was yesterday’s talk about Picasso the one that set the hamster in my head to run full speed: if I couldn’t sketch a fearsome cyborg, maybe my inner child could.
I still had to research a bit to see how preschool kids draw robots and monsters. LOL 😁

Interesting… I’ll see what can I do. I think I already have the perfect spot for a cyborg-tree! 😺

Ooooh, nice! I love how you incorporate an element indigenous to sci-fi into your world that so far seemed like pure fantasy. I definitely want to read more about your world now!

Thank you! I’m trying to fuse those genres, and still make it believable. If I read about a character living like a caveman, and then taking his hoverboard to go to the office, I might throw the book to the other side of the room. 😂

Okay, that was fun! I especially liked the terrifying, realistically child-like drawings! Also, your explanation of the word “scientist.” Great stuff!
