Absinthe: anise-flavoured green spirit derived from botanicals, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium (“grand wormwood”), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs. Considered as an addictive psychoactive drug and hallucinogen.
I, the devotee;
you, bewitching elixir
that kept me blissful.
Drinking thirstily
from your toxic imbibements,
our endless ritual.
My longing for you
keeping an absinthal taste,
dead petals on my lips.

Dark Haiku. You sold me on that alone. AtoZ, a social distancing friend. ps: I thought at first you were going for a Tanka, but three Haiku telling a story is great. I’ll be back. Stu

Thanks, I’m quite happy to know that you liked the effect of this tiny story. I hope the next ones become as intriguing. 😉

Great poem – I love the feel of it. Very atmospheric. It makes the Absinthe feel almost mystical.

Thank you. There’s a mysterious aura about absinthe, indeed.
Wow, you’re doing AtoZ in both blogs? I’ll visit your posts, too.

I’ve long wanted to try absinthe but never had the opportunity. There’s a lot of romance around the “green fairy.” I wonder if it lives up to the hype?

I always wondered, too. Just preparing it looks like a full magic ritual. What will be able to see once we taste it? 😉

Beautiful haikus and a lovely drawing.
Depending on where you are in the world, the absinthe might not be as hallucinogenic as it “used to be”. In the U.S., absinthe’s contents are regulated.
It tastes very much like black licorice though.

Thank you! 😀 Yes, I tasted it once, I’m not a big fan of anise flavored beverages, but I liked that one. Preparing it has some ceremonial feeling, though.
