M is for Memento Mori

Memento Mori: literally “be mindful of dying”. An emblematic object or personal ornament, such as a skull, used as a reminder of one’s mortality. 

 

 

 

Jaspe´s Memento Mori

Memento Mori:

your eternal wooden home,

dried flower petals.

 

Do you miss playing

with your rag toy, your rain stick?

Seeing birds chirping?

 

A petite necklace;

I press my nose searching for

her soft childlike scent

 

Why are my cheeks wet?

Here’s her scent, her sweet perfume,

Why do my eyes burn?
